If you are a 4H, FFA, Grange, or independent student raising livestock to show at the AV fair, the Los Angeles County Farm Bureau (LACFB) is awarding the top three students with a $1,000 donation towards their animal.

What’s your story?

The LACFB would like to hear your personal story about the hard work and benefits of agriculture (i.e. how your interest in agriculture began, why you chose to raise a particular breed of animal, your daily agricultural routine, etc.) Let your creativity shine; write a narrative (no more than 500 words) that contains at least two agricultural facts. Resources can be found at lacfb.org in the “related sites/links” and the “county crop report” sections.

Contest Rules:
Pre-requisites: A copy of your report card (GPAs may be considered, but are not necessarily the deciding factor) and two letters of recommendation (one of the letters must be from your agricultural leader or agricultural teacher. The second letter can be written by a non-agricultural teacher, community leader etc. Please note that letters of recommendation can not be written by family members, livestock auction buyers, or animal breeders.

Deadline:
Will be Monday July 12, 2010. No entries will be accepted after that date. Please mail (postmarked) or drop off your entry at the Los Angeles County Farm Bureau office located at 41228 12th Street West, Suite A, Palmdale, CA 93551. Please include your name, address, grade level, phone number and email address. Incomplete entries will be discarded.

Winner:
The LACFB will pick the top narratives. The winning individuals will be announced two weeks prior to the livestock auction date. In addition, the Los Angeles County Farm Bureau will feature the winners on the cover of our electronic newsletter.
