 Farm
Bureaus purpose is to protect, preserve, and promote agriculture in general, and the
American Family Farming and Ranching way of life.
The Los Angeles County Farm Bureau was
founded in 1917 and currently has over 5000 members. LACFB is a voluntary,
non-governmental, non-profit membership organization of agricultural producers and
individuals that promote agriculture and agricultural education. Our members are also
dedicated to the support and preservation of agriculture throughout Los Angeles County.
As a grass-roots organization, we give
farmers and ranchers a united voice to protect their common interests without regard to
political or religious affiliations. We also strive to promote agriculture through public
relations and educational programs such as AgDayLA, as well as supporting programs involving the California Foundation for Agriculture in the
Classrooom and California School Garden
Network. LACFB advocates and supports the economic advancement of agriculture while
maintaining a balance with the appropriate management of natural resources.
The Los Angeles County Farm Bureau is
affiliated with a nationwide network of Farm Bureaus organized at the county, state, and
national levels.

Agricultures Importance: As the Garden Educator in an Elementary School, I've
noticed that our students are misinformed or have little awareness about the significant
importance of Agriculture in our daily lives. Our outdoor classroom is the perfect setting
to teach our students about California's agriculture products. I've discovered our
students do not know that our state is the largest producer in ag products in the U.S.!
They are awestruck to learn we produce, sell and export nuts, fruits, vegetables and dairy
products throughout our 50 states and the world. Another surprise, is the significant crop
production in Los Angeles County, especially the Antelope Valley. Together we map out
these locations and talk about the crops produced. Our conversations don't end there
either. There are many other agriculture topics for our little gardeners to explore, such
as career opportunities, Farmers Markets, environmental issues, and water management to
name a few.
